West Nile Virus

OVERVIEW

In 2018, West Nile Virus (WNV) was detected in 26 mosquito samples trapped by The Garland Health Department. Eleven WNV human cases were confirmed in Dallas County, two in Garland residents: 3200 block of Bending Oaks Trail (GA13) and 7400 block of Wellesly Avenue (GA11). The presence of the disease in mosquitoes means that transmission to humans is possible throughout the city, so residents were urged to take preventative measures.

Citizens can view a mosquito trapping and spraying map depicting areas where WNV has been detected and subsequently sprayed to reduce the adult mosquito population.
